The Assistance Fund, an independent charitable patient assistance foundation that helps patients and families facing high medical out-of-pocket costs, today announced that Ellen Feinstein, RD, MHA, FACHE, Vice President for Cancer Services at the University of Chicago Medicine, has joined its board of directors.

“We are excited to welcome Ellen to our board,” said Mark P. McGreevy, President and CEO of The Assistance Fund. “As VP of a leading cancer program, Ellen has first-hand insight into the unique experiences of cancer patients and the ways in which new therapies are transforming cancer care. She’s also very familiar with the systems contributing to high out-of-pocket medical costs and the need to help patients afford their medications and care.”

Feinstein has worked in various facets of the healthcare system, including managing surgical services, building new ambulatory facilities and expanding and building clinical service lines. In her current role as vice president for cancer services at the University of Chicago Medicine she is responsible for growth, strategy network development and operations for one of Illinois’ two National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers. Previously, she was the senior director for pediatric oncology, organ transplant and orthopedics at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).

“I am thrilled to join The Assistance Fund’s Board of Directors, as I believe strongly in their mission,” said Feinstein. “One of the biggest challenges we have in cancer care is balancing the promise of new treatments with the financial impact of those treatments on patients. Organizations like TAF provide an important safety net for these patients. I look forward to contributing to TAF’s efforts to continue to grow and innovate to provide the most efficient, reliable and impactful services possible to as many people as possible.”

Feinstein is a Registered Dietitian and a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. She has a bachelor’s degree in nutrition from The Pennsylvania State University, and a master’s degree in health administration from Saint Joseph’s University (Philadelphia). She completed her dietetic internship at Ingalls Memorial Hospital (Harvey, IL) and an administrative residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital (Philadelphia).
