Laura J. Schumacher is Vice Chairman, External Affairs and Chief Legal Officer at AbbVie, guiding a staff of over 700 to fulfill AbbVie’s mission to drive continuous innovation, improve health outcomes and enhance people’s lives.
Schumacher is a proven healthcare executive, having built numerous high-impact functions across AbbVie and led the creation of the AbbVie Foundation. She has been recognized in the industry as The Deal’s “Top Deal Maker” and a “Top Woman in Biotech” by FierceBiotech.
Schumacher has received numerous accolades, including The National Association of Women Lawyers’ Leadership Award and the American Bar Association’s prestigious Margaret Brent Award, which recognizes outstanding female lawyers who have achieved professional excellence and advanced opportunities for women in law.
Schumacher previously served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Abbott Laboratories, where she led the Legal Division, Office of Ethics and Compliance and Licensing and Acquisition.
Schumacher serves on the Boards of General Dynamics, CrowdStrike & the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Schumacher has a Juris Doctor from the University of Wisconsin and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame.
